Other Business in the Parliamentary Day

After question time the Houses proceed to the business set down on the Notice Paper. Government business takes precedence over all other business except on Thursday mornings in the House of Assembly and Wednesday afternoons in the Legislative Council, when private Members (those Members who are not Ministers) may bring Bills or motions before Parliament. However, the bulk of business on the Notice Paper usually comprises the consideration of Government Bills, which have been prepared by the Parliamentary Counsel (who are legal officers who draft or prepare proposals for new laws) on the instructions of Cabinet.
