Q. What search functions are available in the Advanced Search function?
A. The Advanced Search function can be used to search for bills, questions and answers,
speeches or topics. They can be searched either by themselves or by first selecting a
member/electorate/portfolio.
Q. What search functions are available in the Daily Hansards search?
A. The Daily Hansards function provides the entire daily document in either PDF or HTML
versions. It also provides a HTML version of the topics (subjects) in the order in
which they occurred during the day.
Q. How do I find something said in Hansard prior to 16 October 2007?
A. Historic Hansard provides word and phrase searching of PDF documents. The date
range available is from 3 August 1993 until 27 September 2007.

Q. I have cut and paste some Historic Hansard text into a MSWord document, but it
is still in column form. How can I fix this?
A. Once you have pasted the text into MSWord, select 'Find' (CTRL+F), then the
'Replace' Tab.
Select 'More', then 'Special' and click 'Paragraph Mark'.
In the 'Replace With' box, press the space bar once, then click 'Replace All'.
Q. What order are documents returned in the search results?
A. In Daily Hansards, the HTML topics are in the order in which they occurred
during the day.
In Historic Hansard and Text Search, the search results are returned in order relevance.
(i.e. The PDF documents at the top of the search results have the highest number of
results that match the search text).
Q. I would like to print a list of the search results. Is this possible?
A. Yes. Before commencing your search, select the 'Printable Version' icon in the
top right corner. Run through the search functions, and select 'File' and then
'Print' once you have retrieved your search results.
Q. How do I find something that I think was said between 1998 and 2003?
A. Go to the Historic Hansard search function; select a 'From' date of 1 January 1998 and
a 'To' date of 31 December 2003.
Type in the word or phrase and click 'Search'. The list of search results will appear.
