1       Meeting of House

The House met pursuant to adjournment.  The Speaker (Hon J K G Oswald) took the Chair and read prayers.

 

2       Petitions Nos 12 to 16

      The Clerk announced that the following Members had lodged Petitions for presentation:

 

12   The Deputy Premier (Hon R G Kerin), from 291 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House ensure Government funding of public libraries is maintained.

 

13 and 14    The Minister for Education and Children’s Services (Hon M R Buckby) and Mr Scalzi, from 40 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House strengthen the law in relation to prostitution and ban prostitution related advertising.

 

15   Ms Thompson, from 47 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House prohibit the use of bore hole long drop toilets at building sites.

 

16   Hon D C Wotton, from 632 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House urge the Government to replace temporary classrooms at Mylor Primary School with a permanent building.

 

3       Senate Vacancy - Joint Sitting of Members of the two Houses - Minutes of Proceedings

 

The Speaker laid on the Table the Minutes of the Joint Sitting of Members of the two Houses, held on 11 October 2000, for the choosing of a Senator to hold the place rendered vacant by the resignation of Senator J A Quirke, to which vacancy Mr G F Buckland was appointed.

The Minister for Minerals and Energy (Hon W A Matthew), pursuant to notice, moved - That he have leave to introduce a Bill for an Act to make provisions relating to the safety, performance, energy efficiency and labelling of electrical products; to repeal the Electrical Products Act 1988; and for other purposes.

         The Minister moved - That this Bill be now read a second time.

         Ordered, on motion of Ms Hurley, that the debate be adjourned until tomorrow.

 

8       Racing (Transitional Provisions) Amendment Bill

The Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing (Hon I F Evans), pursuant to notice, moved - That he have leave to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Racing (Controlling Authorities) Amendment Act 2000.

         The Minister moved - That this Bill be now read a second time.
