 1   Meeting of House

     The House met pursuant to adjournment.  The Speaker (Hon. G.M. Gunn) took the Chair and read prayers.

 

 2   Petitions Nos 24 and 25

     The Clerk announced that the following Members had lodged Petitions for presentation:

 

     24 Mr Becker, from 102 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House urge the      Government to phase out intensive animal husbandry practices.

 

     25 Mr Lewis, from 19 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House urge the      Government to call on the Federal Government to abandon the increase in tax on leaded petrol.

 

 3   Answers to questions

     An answer to a question on the Notice Paper No. 59 and a question without notice were tabled by the Speaker.

 

 4   Resignation of Mr M.J. Evans

     The Speaker informed the House that he have received the following letter from Mr M.J. Evans:

     I am resigning in order to be able to nominate for the by-election now underway for the seat of Bonython in the Commonwealth Parliament.

     The Treasurer, without notice, moved - That he have leave to introduce a Bill for an Act for the appropriation of money from the Consolidated Account for the financial year ending on 30 June 1995.

     The Minister moved - That this Bill be now read a second time.

     Ordered, on motion of Mr DeLaine, that the debate be adjourned until tomorrow.

        Notice of Motion: Other Motions-

 

     Mr Foley to move - That this House urges the Federal Government to ensure that their forthcoming Industry Statement contains the following:

     (a)     Industry Development Plans in industries that can be internationally competitive and maximise returns;

     (b)     boost in emphasis of Government purchasing policy towards imports substitution;

     (c)     improved access to finance for small and medium sized businesses;

     (d)     a continued export facilitation push into Asia; and

     (e)     special assistance to regional Australia,

     and this House also cautions the Federal Government against accepting the principles of the recently released Green Paper on Employment Opportunities which state industry policy should swing towards addressing market failures rather than developing plans for particular sectors.
