1 Meeting of House

The House met pursuant to adjournment. The Speaker (Hon J J Snelling) took the Chair and read prayers.

 

2 Acting Clerk and Deputy Clerk

The Speaker advised the House that during the absence on leave of the Clerk and pursuant to Standing Order 24, the Deputy Clerk will perform the duties of Clerk and pursuant to Standing Order 25, he had appointed the Serjeant-at-Arms to perform the duties of the Deputy Clerk.

 

3 Petitions No 9 to 11

The Clerk announced that the following Members had lodged Petitions for presentation:

 

9         Ms Chapman, from 1149 residents of South Australia, requesting the House to urge the Government introduce legislation to establish an independent inquiry into property-based taxation; raise the land tax threshold; prevent bracket-creep and review the effects of the tax on the community.

 

10 Ms Chapman, from 264 residents of South Australia, requesting the House to urge the Government to provide intensive care facilities at Noarlunga Hospital.

 

11 Ms Bedford, from 57 residents of South Australia, requesting the House to urge the Government to urgently improve the safety of drivers and pedestrians with the installation of traffic lights at the roundabout located adjacent to Tea Tree Plaza and Modbury Public Hospital.

The Attorney-General to move That he have leave to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Births, Death and Marriages Registration Act 1996; the Coroners Act 2003 and the Cremation Act 2000.

 

The Minister for Health to move That this House requests that the Social Development Committee inquire into and report upon the link between obesity and fast foods, and in particular

(a)           the recent trends in fast food and beverage consumption in South Australia;

(b)           the impact of fast foods on obesity and the health of South Australians;

(c)           the marketing of fast foods and its impact on particular groups, especially children; and

(d)           the measures, including regulatory, which can be taken to reduce any negative impact from fast foods at the Government, community, corporate and famly levels.
