                  The House met pursuant to adjournment.  The Speaker (Hon. G.M. Gunn) took the Chair and read prayers.

 

 2        Messages from the Governor

                  The following Messages from the Governor were received and read:

 

            Dog Fence (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill - Recommending                              Message No. 8

                  The Governor recommends to the House of Assembly the appropriation of such amounts of money as may be required for the purposes mentioned in the Dog Fence (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 1994.

            Electricity Corporations Bill - Recommending                                                                              Message No. 9

                  The Governor recommends to the House of Assembly the appropriation of such amounts of money as may be required for the purposes mentioned in the Electricity Corporations Bill 1994.

            Assent to Bills                                                                                                                                                                                Message No. 10

                  The Governor informs the House of Assembly that, in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, the following Acts have been assented to during the present Session, viz. -

                  No. 63 of 1994 - An Act to amend the Land Tax Act 1936.

                  No. 64 of 1994 - An Act to amend the South Australian Country Arts Trust Act 1992.

                  No. 65 of 1994 - An Act to amend the Motor Vehicles Act 1959.

                  No. 66 of 1994 - An Act to provide a contributory superannuation scheme for persons employed in the public sector; and for other purposes.

                  No. 67 of 1994 - An Act for the appropriation of money from the Consolidated Account for the year ending on 30 June 1995 and for other purposes.

                  No. 68 of 1994 - An Act to amend the Pay-roll Tax 1971.

 3        Return to Writ - District of Taylor

                  The Speaker reported the receipt by him of the return to the writ issued by him for the election of a Member to serve in the District of Taylor.  In place of Hon. L.M.F. Arnold, resigned, Ms Patrica Lynne White was certified to be duly elected for the District of Taylor.

                  Ms White was then introduced and came to the Table and, having made the Affirmation of Allegiance, took her seat for the District of Taylor.


 4        Petition No. 88

                  The Clerk announced that the following Member had lodged a Petition for presentation:

 

                  88 Mr Ashenden, from 1 569 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House urge the                                               Government to introduce legislation to protect the children of South Australia from exploitation.

                  MR SPEAKER - The Legislative Council has passed the Bill transmitted herewith, titled an Act to amend the Shop Trading Hours Act 1977, to which it desires the concurrence of the House of Assembly.

                  The Minister moved - That this Bill be now read a second time.

                  Ordered, on motion of Mr Clarke, that the debate be adjourned until tomorrow.

            Vocational Education, Employment and Training Bill                                                         Message No. 36

                  MR SPEAKER - The Legislative Council has agreed to the Bill returned herewith, titled an Act to make provision relating to vocational education, employment and training; to repeal the Industrial and Commercial Training Act 1981 and the Tertiary Education Act 1986; and for other purposes, with the amendment indicated by the annexed Schedule, to which the Legislative Council desires the concurrence of the House of Assembly.

                  Page 4 (clause 7) - After line 17 insert new subclause as follows:-
