1       Meeting of House

The House met pursuant to adjournment.  The Speaker (Hon J K G Oswald) took the Chair and read prayers.

 

2       Messages from the Governor

         The following Messages from the Governor were received and read:

 

         Emergency Services Funding Bill - Recommending                   Message No 13

The Governor recommends to the House of Assembly the appropriation of such amounts of money as may be required for the purposes mentioned in the Emergency Services Funding Bill 1998.

The Governor informs the House of Assembly that, in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, the following Act has been assented to during the present Session, viz.-

3       Petition No 71

         The Clerk announced that the following Member had lodged a Petition for presentation:

 

71   Hon R B Such, from 146 residents of South Australia, requesting that the House urge the Government to reconsider its decision to close Living Health and to ensure that existing sponsorships, currently funded by the tobacco tax, are maintained.

 

4       Paper

The Speaker laid on the Table the following report which had been printed and published pursuant to section 17 (7) of the Parliamentary Committees Act 1991:

 

The Seventieth Report of the Public Works Committee on the Hindmarsh Soccer Stadium Upgrade – Stage 2 – Final Report (Paper No 201).

 

5       Answers to questions

6       Suspension of Standing Orders

The Deputy Premier (Hon G A Ingerson), without notice, moved - That Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable the Premier to make a statement of unlimited duration regarding the planned restructuring of ETSA and Optima.

Question put and passed, without a negative voice, there being present an absolute majority of the whole number of Members of the House.

Ms White to move – That this House expresses concern that South Australia’s public school and TAFE systems will suffer unprecedented budget cuts over the next three years and censures the Minister for Education, Children’s Services and Training for failing to protect the future of education and training in this State and for accepting the Government’s cuts to his portfolio which far exceed those in other Departments.
