         The House met pursuant to adjournment. The Speaker (Hon Peter Lewis) took the Chair and read prayers.

         The Clerk announced that the following Members had lodged Petitions for presentation:

 

90   Mrs Penfold, from 3281 residents of Port Lincoln, requesting the House to urge the Government to retain the Port Lincoln Centenary Oval as a recreational reserve.

 

91   Dr McFetridge, from 894 residents of South Australia, requesting the House to urge the Government to provide significant open space and/or parkland on the site known as ”Magic Mountain”.

 

92   Mr Brokenshire, from 256 residents of South Australia, requesting the House to urge the Government to continue to recruit extra police officers, over and above recruitment at attrition, in order to increase police officer numbers.

8       Statutes Amendment (Division of Superannuation Benefits Under Family Law Act) Bill

The Deputy Premier, pursuant to notice, moved - That he have leave to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Judges’ Pensions Act 1971, the Parliamentary Superannuation Act 1974, the Police Superannuation Act 1990, the Southern State Superannuation Act 1994 and the Superannuation Act 1988.

Question put and passed.

         Bill presented and read a first time.

 

         The Minister moved - That this Bill be now read a second time.

         The following Message from the Legislative Council was received and read:

MR SPEAKER - The Legislative Council has passed the Bill transmitted herewith, titled an Act to protect animal health, safety and welfare and the public interest by providing for the registration of veterinary surgeons; to regulate the provision of veterinary treatment for the purpose of maintaining high standards of competence and conduct by veterinary surgeons; to repeal the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1985; and for other purposes, to which it desires the concurrence of the House of Assembly.
