Council met pursuant to adjournment.  The President (The Hon. R. K. Sneath) took the Chair.

The Minister for the Mineral Resources Development, by leave, tabled a copy of a Ministerial Statement made by the Premier (The Hon. M. D. Rann, M.P.) concerning Assistance for Riverland Irrigators.

The Minister for the Mineral Resources Development, by leave, tabled a copy of a Ministerial Statement made by the Treasurer (The Hon. K. O. Foley, M.P.) concerning Government Investments and Share Market Volatility.

The President announced the appointment of Mr. Chris Schwarz to the position of Deputy Clerk and Usher of the Black Rod.

   6.

The Hon. M. C. Parnell, without notice, moved - That the Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable him to move for the substitution, by motion, of a Member on the Select Committee on  SA Water.

                 Question put and passed, without a dissentient voice, there being present an absolute majority of the whole number of Members of the Council.

                 The Hon. M. C. Parnell then moved - That the Hon. J. A. Darley be substituted in the place of the Hon. N. Xenophon, resigned, on the Select Committee on SA Water.

The Minister for Mineral Resources Development, without notice, moved - That the Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable Question Time to be extended to enable the Hon. J.S.L. Dawkins to ask a question of the Minister and for the Minister to complete his reply.

                 Question put and passed, without a dissentient voice, there being present an absolute majority of the whole number of Members of the Council.

The Minister for Mineral Resources Development, according to order, moved - That the Statutes Amendment and Repeal (Taxation Administration) Bill be now read a second time.

                 The Minister for Mineral Resources Development, pursuant to contingent notice, then moved - That the Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable the Bill to pass through its remaining stages without delay.

                 Debate resumed.

                 On motion of the Hon. J. M. Gazzola, the debate was adjourned until next day of sitting.
