Table 2
Ms Tse believes that there is still untapped potential for South Australia and that there is room for even
further growth given that it is very hard to get a university place in Hong Kong with only 14,500 places
available each year . The Hong Kong government will implement the new senior secondary academic
structure in 2009 . Currently the children complete O
and A levels as per the U.K system or the
International Baccalaureate. The students who start senior yr 1 in 2009 will be the first cohort of
students taking Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education in 2012 .
The greatest movement of students is still currently to the U.K for historical reasons. Many Hong Kong
public servants employed prior to 1997 had an "education of children" component written into their
contracts. However, it is felt that these ties will loosen now that students will no longer be studying O
and A
levels .
Eliza's Personal Assistant also lived in Adelaide for 10 years while her husband studied his PhD here,
so ties with this agency and South Australia are very close.

Peter Chu
9/F World Trust Tower
50 Stanley Street, Central Hong Kong.
Peter Chu has been a SABAN
Ambassador for many years. He owns one of the largest
international
wine importing and exporting businesses in Hong Kong, "Orient
Pacific (Asia) Ltd", and imports a
large selection of South Australian wine (which we saw at his cellars) as well as wine
from all over the
world. Peter admits that the Hong Kong palate is still young and not yet sophisticated and he sees
part
of his role to educate and facilitate this change . Peter is just about to move
his cellar to a purpose built
and fitted warehouse of 8,000 square feet (very large for Hong Kong) so that he can expand his
business . He intends to convert one end of the warehouse to a commercial kitchen where he will invite
guest chefs to cook for invited guests . He in turn will match a selection of wines to the
prepared food in
an attempt to educate the Hong Kong palate . Peter is very keen on South Australian wines and studied
for his M .B .A in South Australia. The Hong Kong government has recently abolished
tariffs on wines
as it wants to become the wine trading hub of South East Asia . This new legislation has already passed
the lower house but has yet to go through the Legislative Council. The duty prior to the change in
legislation was 80% then reduced to 60% two years ago. The latest change has reduced the
tariff to 0%
and will have a significant effect on the wine market . The negative side will obviously be a flooding of
the market with new agents .
