NOTES
Each of the first three Governors was styled Governor and Commander-in-Chief, but this title was altered in the case of
Colonel Robe and Sir H.E.F. Young to Lieutenant-Governor, and again altered to Captain-General and Governor-in-Chief
in the persons of Sir Richard MacDonnell and Sir Dominick Daly; after which time it reverted to the firstnamed style and title
until 1901. (See e.g., Parliamentary Paper No. 16 of 1869-70, and Letters Patent, April 28, 1877). But after the establishment of
Federation and appointment of a Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Commonwealth, the holder of
the local office is simply Governor.
