Young to “Lieutenant-Governor”, and again altered to “Captain-General” and “Governor-in-Chief” in the persons of Sir Richard MacDonnell and Sir Dominick Daly; after which time it reverted to the firstnamed style and title until 1901.  (See e.g., Parliamentary Paper No. 16 of 1869-70, and Letters Patent, April 28, 1877).  But after the establishment of Federation and appointment of a “Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Commonwealth”, the holder of the local office is simply “Governor”.
