   1.

Council met pursuant to adjournment.  The President (The Hon. J. C. Irwin) took the Chair.

                 The President read prayers.

The following Paper was laid upon the Table, viz.:

The Hon. A. J. Redford brought up the First Report, 1998-99 of the Legislative Review Committee.

The Attorney-General, while making a Ministerial Statement, tabled a copy of a Report required under Section 5 of the Criminal Law (Undercover Operations) Act 1995.

The Attorney-General tabled a copy of a Ministerial Statement made by the Minister for Police, Correctional and Emergency Services (The Hon. R. Brokenshire, M.P.) concerning Emergency Services Restructuring.

The Minister for Disability Services (The Hon. R. D. Lawson), without notice, moved - That the Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable Question Time to be extended to enable him to give a reply to a question asked by the Hon. I. Gilfillan.

                 Question put and passed, without a dissentient voice, there being present an absolute majority of the whole number of Members of the Council.

The Treasurer (The Hon. R. I. Lucas), without notice, moved - That the Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable Question Time to be extended for one hour to enable questions to be asked by Members and replies given concerning the Report of the Auditor-General, 1997-98.

                 Question put and passed, without a dissentient voice, there being present an absolute majority of the whole number of Members of the Council.

The Treasurer, without notice, moved - That the Standing Orders be so far suspended as to enable Question Time to be extended to enable him to give a reply to a question asked by the Hon.
N. Xenophon.

                 To His Excellency Sir Eric James Neal, Companion of the Order of Australia, Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor in and over the State of South Australia in the Commonwealth of Australia:

                 MAY IT PLEASE YOUR EXCELLENCY -

                       1.   We, the Members of the Legislative Council, thank Your Excellency for the speech with which you have been pleased to open Parliament.

                       2.   We assure Your Excellency that we will give our best attention to all matters placed before us.

                       3.   We earnestly join in Your Excellency’s prayer for the Divine blessing on the proceedings of the Session.
