    ➢Biochar has a wide range of applications with different economic values – spanning from low value (fertilizer/soil amendment, construction, etc) $200-400/t to high quality/high value uses (animal feed, cosmetics, medicinal, etc) of around $2000-4000/t ➢Technology exists that enables companies to take high-cost waste into new value streams, ie: - heat that replaces LPG/diesel in washing, heating processes, etc - biochar that can be used or sold - carbon credits ➢This is particularly attractive to Food & Beverage manufacturers in regional areas – a target industry sector for SA ➢Industry needs a new “competitiveness paradigm” - move from relatively low impact environmental approaches - to high impact strategies such as using “waste” as a resource to reduce energy costs - leverage these “waste” resources to reduce cost structures/growth enabler ➢SA has the potential to further brand itself with a pro-active approach – education, awareness raising, case studies Slide
