In 1998/1999, six Operations were conducted at Yatala Labour Prison, Mobilong Prison, Adelaide 52 Annual Report 1998/1999 World Class Performance Women's Prison and the Port Adelaide and North East Community Correctional Centres resulting in: four prisoners being charged by Police; three visitors being charged by Police; ten prisoners placed on non contact visits; thirteen visitors being banned; numerous telephone numbers being prohibited to prisoners; four Community Service offenders being issued with cannabis expiation notices; and one Community Service offender being charged with possession of a drug of dependence for sale.

The Select Committee received a submission which noted `about 60 per cent of young motor cyclists killed in Victoria have taken some form of medicine or illegal drug and cannabis use is known to be a factor in up to 20 per cent of driving casualties.'"

 In four of the seven cases one or both parents or carers smoked cigarettes, cannabis or both.

We have observed a reduction in the number of people aged 14-29 who reported use of any illicit drug (including cannabis) in the last 12 months, from 26% in 2010 to 24% in 2013.

Dogs were used in 1025 drug searches covering all institutions with the following results: Drugs - 74 amounts of Cannabis with the largest single amount totalling 81 gms; 3 very small amounts of powder drugs.

The strategy will:  address the use of legal drugs including alcohol, prescription medications and inhalants, and illegal drugs such as cannabis, heroin and amphetamine type substances;  identify strategies for preventing drug misuse and harm; and  complement the new National Drug Strategy.

Large crops of cannabis were located in the Waikerie, Virginia, Millicent, Western Flat (near Naracoorte) areas and offenders were arrested relative to these crops.
