Committee Function

A Select Committee of the Legislative Council has been established to inquire into and report on energy affordability and competitiveness in South Australia, with particular reference to:
(a) the affordability, reliability and security of electricity and gas supply for South Australian households, businesses, manufacturers and industry;
(b) the impact of electricity and gas prices on the cost of living, business competitiveness, investment, employment and economic growth in South Australia;
(c) the effectiveness of current State and Commonwealth energy policies in delivering affordable, reliable and secure energy;
(d) the adequacy and transparency of the South Australian Government's long-term energy planning, including the South Australian Strategic Gas Reserve and associated gas supply arrangements;
(e) opportunities to diversify South Australia's energy mix, including all existing and emerging technologies;
(f) the role of gas in South Australia's future energy security, including domestic supply, storage, exploration and production;
(g) the economic, environmental and regulatory implications of proposals relating to hydraulic fracture stimulation in South Australia;
(h) the impact of emerging high-energy demand industries, including artificial intelligence data centres and associated digital infrastructure, and the adequacy of current planning for their projected electricity consumption and network requirements;
(i) barriers to investment in affordable, reliable and dispatchable energy generation and infrastructure in South Australia;
(j) measures that could improve energy affordability and enhance South Australia's long-term economic competitiveness; and
(k) any other related matter.
